Just stick the hone in the cylinder, slobber on some oil and have at it. Move the hone back and forth in the cylinder to produce a 45 degree cross hatch pattern and in a minute or so your done. That is assuming you don't need to bore it oversize. If the cylinder is well worn you will have to bore it oversize.

I took the master cylinder off and apart a while ago, and since then it seems as though the residual brake fluid has eaten into the bore and some other parts, like the little metal plate inside the fluid reservoir is this possible? Whatever the reason, the bore's a little pitted, so I'd like to hone the master cylinder to get it smooth again.
I'm looking at ball hones online -- what grit should I be using? If you manage to hone enough out of the bore to remove pits id be willing to bet the bore would become too big for the seals to work. For bike I just figured the bore is too small and never seen honing stones that small anyways. Figured it's just not done.
The typical 3 stone hone would not be used for this operation. They do make bore size spiral brushes that have a cutting aggregate attached or impregnated to the brush bristles. They are stiff and really can take a lot of material off, They are used the same, as you would spin then white moving them in and out. Very much like if not considered a BALL hone. From what I remember from those days had auto shop class in high schoolthe theory behind honing is to apply a cross hatch pattern to the bore.
In this case it will actually decrease the diameter by ever so slightly as opposed to boring. In other words, by scribing the cylinder with the stones or ball hone as well I suppose in diamond cross hatch pattern, you are displacing some of the material not removing which will cause high spots surface throughout the cylinder. So I would think the idea is not to remove the pits, but create the higher surface how to build a sulcata tortoise house throughout the cylinder to compensate for the wear which occurred over time.
The honing would make it fit better with the OEM type size kit. Like I said, how do you restore leather furniture has been a long time and we learned this at very early part of the morning, started at AM I think. So my facts may be way out there. So please don't think I am speaking facts.

By the time the what does regulation z regulates marks are gone the bore will be out of round and way oversize. Chuck the master in the trash and look for a new used one, only be prepared to search before finding a clean one.
There are aftermarket masters available with that same spacing that an inventive person could adapt, but be careful, most of how to hone a motorcycle cylinder aftermarket units use 45mm spacing.

Jun 01, · So many people have made videos that show incorrect or incomplete info on this very important topic. If you are competent enough to rebuild an engine, you do. I have a Yamaha DT i bought the kit and every one i ask wants to to much they want $ I bought the bike from a person that was hard on it i had it for about a year and i was going riding that day and suddenly lost all my compression got it home and i pulled the top end out it was smoking since i bought it i thought it was just the mix i was using is there any way i can rebuilt. The general practice is to rebore the cylinder mm under the finished size and then produce the required surface finish and bore size with a cylinder honing device. Cylinder Honing An abrasive machining process that produces a precision surface on the cylinder bore. It is used primarily to improve the geometric form of the surface, the honing head normally consists of four stones that are held .
If the cylinder is within specification and you are only going to put in a new set of rings, you must hone the cylinder to break the glaze. This will put a nice crosshatch pattern in the cylinder walls. The crosshatch pattern will hold oil and help lubricate the piston and rings as the rings wear in to the cylinder.
That is mild. A cylinder hone can also be used to bore a cylinder to a bigger size and that is wild. I need to get a life if I think that is wild! Cylinder hones can also be used to hone brake cylinders, clutch cylinders and most any round cylinder. Cylinder hones can be fairly cheap in price, around five dollars, or quite expensive.
Ammco and Sunnen hones can cost hundreds of dollars. The cheap ones work well for cleaning up a spot of rust or breaking the glaze. The expensive ones can accurately bore a cylinder to accept the next oversize piston or bigger.
To Hone a cylinder is easy. Just stick the hone in the cylinder, slobber on some oil and have at it. Move the hone back and forth in the cylinder to produce a 45 degree cross hatch pattern and in a minute or so your done. That is assuming you don't need to bore it oversize. If the cylinder is well worn you will have to bore it oversize. In a cylinder that is grossly worn out, the piston, set at top-dead-center, will wiggle forward and back in the bore.
This tells us two things. One, you need to bore the cylinder oversize and two, you are sadly lacking in your maintenance. If the piston is fairly tight you might be able to get away with just a hone job and a set of new rings. If you are unsure you will need to measure the piston clearance. You will need inside and outside micrometers to accurately make the measurements.
The procedure is simple but you must be very precise in it's execution. Measure the diameter of the piston about one half inch up the skirt. Measure the diameter of the cylinder at: Both front to back and side to side. Measured at top, middle and bottom of the cylinder. Measure Piston. Measure Cylinder. Measure Cylinder Places Four Stroke. Measure Cylinder Places Two Stroke.
